Beach Life


Tampa is but a short drive to some fine beaches. A visitor can expect that some beaches have an admission charge (normally a flat rate for a car load) or parking charges. On the other hand, the beaches tend to be clean and well serviced with ample parking, picnic grounds and lifeguard services.
Caladesi Island State Park is a 500-acre state park that is reckoned to contain one of America's top beaches. There are miles of soft sand, rolling sand dunes, a marina plus camping facilities. Birds such as herons, egrets also flock to the island.
Ft. Desoto Park is a huge state park of over 1000 acres. There are bike trails, canoe trails, camping and picnic grounds among the trees. You may also stumble across a fort dating from 1898. There are also seven miles of unspoiled beaches that is free from development.
St. Petersburg Municipal Beach contains the usual restrooms and ample parking. There are volleyball courts for those who like to combine the beach with sports.
Pass-A-Grille Beach is known for its safe swimming in its calm, shallow water.
Sunset Beach is a picturesque beach that is popular with Europeans and the gay community.
